We are a family owned business of more than 60 years.

We are a family owned business of more than 60 years. Our strength/resilience within the industry and our commitment to our customers has been the backbone of this company. William Gill was involved in the transport industry in New Zealand for over 70 years. He established William Gill Limited in Auckland in 1924 and in 1954 (thirty years later), he founded William Gill & Sons Ltd in Huntly.

The right people for the job

Commer and Dodge trucks were our first line of business and we soon developed a widespread reputation as a company who stood behind everything we sold 100%. As a consequence, the demand for our service increased and came from further afield.

William Gill & Sons Ltd’s expertise in truck sales and service was recognised by Todd Motors in 1972 (who had just acquired the Mitsubishi franchise in New Zealand) when they appointed William Gill & Sons Ltd as Mitsubishi dealers.

Our Manukau City branch was opened in 1978 to service an already large customer base in the Auckland region. Up until 2009 we enjoyed being one of New Zealand’s top sellers of Mitsubishi trucks. This came to a halt when Mitsubishi decided to rationalise their Mitsubishi truck dealers around New Zealand. Fortunately our reputation in the transport industry plus our long term loyal customers has enabled us to carry the business on.

new beginnings

The business today still operates out of two locations.

Our Huntly and Auckland (Manukau) branches have a team of 28 passionate staff. Largely the business is made up of truck repairs and servicing plus parts sales. Our Huntly branch also operates an extensive truck wrecking division on top of general truck servicing/repairs and parts sales.

In February 2013 (at 85 years of age) our CEO, Brian Gill, decided to slow down and left the day to day running of the business to his daughter Linda and Grandson Scott. Sadly, Brian passed away in August 2013. He has left a great empire which will be carried on.
